Even the current Honda Civic Type R is not that old – it has been released in 2011 – Honda is already working on the next one, on the 2017 Honda Civic Type R.
Interior and exterior design and changes
According to some sources the new 2017 Honda Civic Type R’s overall shape won’t be too different from the current model, but the details will be certainly changed. The front fascia of the vehicle will get some totally new features. We will see a new more upright badge, missing side air inlets which were positioned under the headlights, and new added vertical brake ducts. On the rear part of the vehicle there will be a new and revised spoiler and lower fascia. Also, the rear doors will be reshaped. The pull-style handles will replace the C-pillar-mounted handles. Most noticable changes that will change the exterior of the current model will be the three center-mounted exhaust pipes with two large pipes and one smaller tip in between. Same thing will happen with the new interior. The interior will keep its sport design with a plenty of red accents combined with black cabin. Also we are expecting to see new sport seats and folding second row.
2017 Honda Civic Type R powertrain
We are still not sure what will be changed under the hood of the new 2017 Honda Civic Type R. The current powertrain is a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder which includes direct fuel injection, VTEC valvetrain system, and a single-scroll turbocharger which provides around 306 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. So , if Honda decides to bring even more power to the new Type R, we could expect power outputs around 315 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque. This way the new Civic will be capable to reach 60 mph in just five seconds, and the top speed is expected to be 167 mph. In the new Honda Civic we are also expecting to see the same 6-speed manual transmission.
Release date and price
It is very early to talk about the pricing, but the new 2017 Honda Civic Type R is expected to cost around $46,000 and to come by 2017.
